Radio broadcaster George Bowie has been awarded an MBE in The King鈥檚 Birthday Honours in recognition of his services to broadcasting and charitable causes.

Bowie鈥檚 career in radio spans more than 40 years, beginning at Radio Clyde in the 1980s answering phones for Superscoreboard before going on to become one of Scotland鈥檚 most recognisable and enduring on-air personalities, hosting Bowie@Breakfast on Clyde 1 for almost three decades.

Across a career that has seen him work with generations of presenters and deliver consistently strong audience performances, Bowie has also become known for his support of charitable causes and community fundraising. His high-profile work, particularly with Cash for Kids, has helped social groups secure over 拢1 million in grants.

Speaking following the announcement, Bowie said:

鈥淢y mum is absolutely buzzing to tell her pals, it鈥檚 such a big deal to that generation.

鈥淚 wish my dad was here to see it but I know he is looking down and is proud.鈥�

Bowie joked that his next challenge is deciding what to wear for the investiture ceremony.

鈥淓llen wants me to wear a kilt 鈥� I鈥檓 not sure about it but I think you have to wear one when you are Scottish though!鈥�
