Here鈥檚 what happened at Mission Christmas HQ聽
Mission Christmas is 每日大赛鈥檚 Cash for Kids biggest campaign of the year and aims to help the one in three children living in poverty across the UK have a happy Christmas.
Last week some of our favourite radio shows broadcast live from Manchester鈥檚 Mission Christmas HQ warehouse, where thousands of presents are being delivered, packed and sent to children who need them most.
Here鈥檚 everything that went down:
Magic Breakfast
Harriet Scott was joined by McFly鈥檚 Harry Judd to start the day with some Mission Christmas cheer. The pair got a tour of the warehouse, welcomed Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and were serenaded by the iconic Rock Choir.
Andy Burnham said: 鈥淲ho wants any child to wake up without a present to open on Christmas day. We’ve got 1 in 3 children living in poverty in the UK…we just want every young person to feel a bit of joy on Christmas day and have something new that they can feel proud and positive about鈥
Throughout the day there were deliveries of toys large and small. From locals dropping by a handful of presents they鈥檝e personally donated, to B&M delivering a literal truck of supplies for young people in need across the UK.
Next up on air was Hits Radio鈥檚 Tom Green聽
Broadcasting to millions, Tom spoke with the people who keep Mission Christmas running and some of the beneficiaries that Cash For Kids work with on their Mission Christmas appeal. Tom also enlisted a local cheer group, who provided energy for the all the volunteers – and even got involved in the cheerleading himself鈥
Kate Thornton on Greatest Hits Radio brought her lunchtime show to Mission Christmas HQ聽
Kate had Sir Andy Murray join the show, to talk about the importance of Mission Christmas鈥 and how he eats sushi on Christmas Day instead of turkey! Kate鈥檚 show raised thousands of pounds in donations from her generous listeners.
Rounding out an amazing day of on-air action, Absolute Radio鈥檚 Bush & Richie brought their hometime show live from Manchester
The boys tried their hand at the classic parent鈥檚 Christmas Eve challenge 鈥 putting toys together in record time. They also spoke with volunteers, beneficiaries and tried their hand at driving a forklift鈥 well, almost.
So far Mission Christmas has ensured 142,420 children across the UK will wake up with a gift under the tree, however they still have applications to fulfil for 142,724 children. With your help they could still complete the Mission!
